Work Ethic / Integrity
A major emphasis of the class will be on group discussion and problem solving. Students will often be asked to work in groups or with partners to accomplish various tasks. This type of discussion and assistance to one another is appropriate; however, all assignments that are turned in must be the student’s own, individual work. Students are not allowed to copy work or responses and should not collaborate to come up with “one best response” unless directed in writing in the assignment instructions.

Class Web Site
An American Studies Web site is available with homework help, a class calendar, and several other features.  Student writing and book reviews will be posted.  Students will be identified on the Web site by first name and last initial only.  The class Web site can beaccesseddirectly at www.cmsamericanstudies.com or through the Centennial home page atwww.cms.provo.edu and clicking “Teacher Pages.”  The computer lab at school is available for those who do not have Internet access at home.  Additionally, the Provo Public Library offers free access.

Video Use
Significant events in United States history have captured the interest of film makers for a long time. Many of these feature films are very accurate portrayals of these important events or issues facing our government and society. To enhance our curriculum, from time to time I will use meaningful clips from films and occasionally a film in its entirety as it fits the curricular objectives. These films may include:
