Search for Lost Boy Scout Turns Into Recovery
I have been following this story on TV for a while now, this is the fifth day in the search for a ten-year-old boy who went missing while camping with his scout troop. Today there were sixty to seventy trained professionals who combed the territory inch by inch and they still have not found him. The search teams have been paying special attention to cliffs, boulders, and fields; they think he may have found shelter there. I feel very sorry for this boy and his family. I can relate to this because a few weeks ago I was at scout camp and I lost the trail, but I shortly found it again. I hope this boy is found alive and safe. Riley H.

Toxin Warnings Grow for U.S. Fish
Every state except Alaska and Wyoming has been issued fish advisories due to pollution. Some of the pollutants are mercury, dioxins, pesticides, copper, arsenic, and lead. Pollution currently affects about one-third of the nation’s lakes and one-half of the nation’s rivers. I felt really bad about this article, because this means that even with all the strict laws about pollution, factories are still dumping their junk into a river or lake. I think a good way to resolve this problem is to invent machinery that is more efficient. Zane L.

Phelps Wins Another Gold
In the newspaper on Saturday, August 21 it reported that Michael Phelps won his fifth gold medal in the 100 meter butterfly. It was a very close race! He was racing against his teammate Ian Crocker who on the last lap had the lead, but Phelps had the power and the skill to catch up with him. They were head to head, and they reached out for the wall on the finish and Michael Phelps won the gold medal by four-one hundredths of a second. Michael Phelps has now tied Mark Spitz’s four individual gold medals. Michael Phelps can still tie the gymnast Aleksandr Dityatin’s record of eight medals but won’t break the record. What is so amazing about Michael Phelps is that he gave up his relay spot to Ian Crocker, but he will still get the medal if they win because he swam in the relay preliminaries. To me that is so amazing. He cares so much about his teammates and wants Ian Crocker to have another chance at a gold medal. Another thing that is amazing is that Michael Phelps has swum seventeen races in the past seven days. I can’t wait to see him in the next summer Olympics!
