All that is required for the triumph of evil
is that good men do nothing.

TAKE A TRIP ACROSS THE COUNTRY

In this assignment you will work with a partner to plan a journey across the United States. Using a road atlas, you will detail your trip giving Interstates and major highways used as well as sights visited along the way. You should meet the following goals:

  • visit all six political regions of the United States, two states per region
  • visit one sight of historic significance in each state
  • visit one sight of geographic significance in each region

After you and your partner plan your trip, the following items will be turned in for a grade:

  • a map of your route -- label major roads traveled, states visited, and “significant sights” using a legend or key (see grading rubric)
  • a log sheet that briefly summarizes each state with specific details (see grading rubric)
  • a travel journal describing your trip -- entries for this journal should be made for each state and each entry should be approximately three-fourths page; show your personalities on this and make it fun as well as informative, give details and interesting points about the places you visit -- this journal should be typed, double-spaced, each partner must write one journal entry per region for a total of six per person (see grading rubric); writing will be assessed individually
  • one state postcard per region (total of six) which provides at least five major state details (capital, motto/slogan, flower, bird, sports teams, population, climate, geographic features, etc.)
