I have always been a Provo girl. I attended Edgemont Elementary,
Dixon and Farrer, then graduated from Timpview. I received my Bachelor's
Degree from BYU in English and Political Science. Since then, I
have attended summer classes at Georgetown University, Catholic
University (Washington, D.C.), University of Massachusetts at Lowell,
BYU, and the University of Colorado. A year ago I spent a week at Brown University studying the Era of George Washington. I have also studied extensively
at Utah State University and earned a master's
degree in Technology and Curriculum from the University of Phoenix.
I have spent the past twenty-two years teaching middle school in
Provo School District. I taught for ten years at Farrer and then
transferred to Centennial when it opened. I started my teaching
career teaching seventh grade English, and after three years added
a combination English/U.S. History class for gifted students. Since
that time, I have continued to teach the combination class (American
Studies) and have also taught U.S. History, seventh grade English,
eighth grade English, Student Council, and this year have added Journalism.
I love to travel. In addition to travel in the United States, I
have been to Greece, Turkey, Israel, Brazil, the Soviet Union (when it was
still the USSR), and throughout Western Europe. Some of my favorite
trips have been cruises to Alaska, the Mediterranean, and the Carribbean. I also love Broadway musicals, so I try to travel to NYC every few years.
I love any type of paper crafts, especially scrapbooks. I frequently
take classes and also participate in a card exchange with friends. It is rare to find me without a camera to collect pictures for my scrapbooks.
I love to read, which is why I majored in English. I love adolescent
literature, romance, mystery, legal thrillers, and especially historical
fiction. I also love and continue to read the classics. Basically, I read anything
and everything, but I rarely read a book twice; there are too many great books still out there.
I have the best job in the world. The opportunity to continue learning
while working with middle school students guarantees I will never be
bored.
