The following writing contests can earn extra credit worth up to 25 points, depending on the quality of the entry.

Utah Commission for Women and Families Essay Contest:
In honor of Women't History Month the commission announces the first annual middle and high school essay contest. Students may choose to write about any American woman living or deceased. Essay topics may include, but are not limited to, how this woman made a difference to her community and why this woman is important to the student.

Grand Prize Winners will receive a scholarship to the 2007 Utah Youth Summit, a three-day retreat designed to foster leadership skills, and will also attend the awards ceremony. Other winners will receive books, gift certificates, and other prizes.

Essays should be between 300 and 500 words with proper punctuation, grammar, and spelling. List any sources used for the essay in footnotes or endnotes. Essays must be submitted by January 31, 2007. Entries can be e-mailed to: RMILLS@Utah.com or mailed to Rochelle Mills, Work and Family Life/Utah Commission for Women and Families, 140 East 300 South, SLC, UT 84111. A copy of your submitted essay must be turned in to Miss Thornock for the extra credit points.
