Rubrics are useful in both grading and writing because they provide clear expectations. The writer knows what is expected, the reader knows what to evaluate. Although the basic aspects of writing do not change, some writing has specific elements (i.e. Persuasive writing must acknowledge and refute the opposing view). Because of this, several rubrics will be used in American Studies. Following are standard rubrics used in American Studies.

Body Paragraph Rubric
